Unreal - thanks for so quickly identifying what this thing is. Also - thanks for reminding me how old I am as I can remember getting my first 4 function calculator - aarrgghh! Thanks again to everyone - mystery solved!

Friend of mine works in customer service for the highway authority and a caller needed to send in the 50 cents for a toll. Caller did not have a checking account so was going to have to spend the money for a money order. Then wanted to know how to send it in and my friend told her about envelopes and then put a stamp on it. The reply was "is that the little sticky thing"? Everyday I feel older and older.

Ah... my SON needed to send a letter and googled how much it cost. At least he had heard of stamps but then when he found a stamp in his mother's desk drawer, he called me because the stamp he found did not have a price on it, instead it said "forever" and he was worried that the stamp would not work.

So you were faced with a teaching moment the dilemma
- Do I tell him. “No it will not work.. Give me a dollar and I’ll post it for you...”
- Sure it says “forever”... We can trust the government. Stick it on and lets see if it works.... Oh since you “need to send it” if you give me a dollar I’ll make sure it is ok.
I just said... "yes it will work --- FOREVER even if the post office raises the price". Now I tell the story every time he gives me $h!t about not knowing something about my smart phone. 
I have a 1908 K&E slide rule that appears to have ivory covering the underlying wood. Given to me by a Russian engineer. Said it was his grandfather's. And the first 4 function calculator, a Casio from 1973. It cost $400 then, $.50 now. I did start the baby boom, so just some historical artifacts.
