Located under the starboard seating area in a Catalina 30, seems to attach to the hull. The thing sticking up appears to be a cut cable. Have no idea what it is.

Haven't checked outside yet. I will eventually though. I was guessing it might be the knotmeter too, but the previous owner said the knotmeter was elsewhere.

Yeah, I agree. I think it is a defunct transducer that shoots through the hull. Shouldn't be anything on the outside of the hull.

Interesting. Thanks for the input. So after checking to make sure it doesn't stick out the hull, I should be able to just remove that whole box thingy? It looks to be attached by epoxy. Maybe with an angle grinder or dremel.

Risky without checking for sure theres no hole all the way through. Now that would be a nasty surprise.

I have a similar treasure in mine. Fortunately I don't need that space.

Is that a wire, or a tube coming out the top? I see a dirt footprint of the box that was there before.

Throw my money in with the crowd that thinks it looks like a thru hull depth transducer potted in a Tupperware container that's glued or caulked to the hull. Might be in oil or even toilet ring wax. I'll be interested to see what you find when you pull it.

Ya, I'm starting to think that's the case too! I'll update this in a few weeks when I finally get to investigating it. Thanks everyone!

I removed it today! It was totally just a depth transducer, dangling inside that box, no fluid inside. I removed it and chipped away all the resin and silicon used to build the box. Smooth hull now under the starboard seats. Thanks for the help everyone!
