Can anyone tell us what manufacturer and model this boat is? (see photo) It's about 30 ft long, and it has two masts, although I have not seen it rigged. The second mast is forward of the wheel. We recently acquired this abandoned boat from a relative of the deceased owner, and need to know what it is. We can't find a HIN or manufacturer label anywhere. Thanks in advance! --David

Hmmm

The smallest Vagabonds that I've been able to find are 33'. The cabins don't look the same. There are a number of boats that have similar keel configurations (Cape Dorys, Alberg, etc.) and the Allied Seawind Ketch 30' is extemely similar. They were made in the mid to late 60's. But that particular rudder design... I can't find one like it in any of the Mauch Sailboat Guide books. I agree though, she really has great lines. Won't point very well and not something you'd really go racing in, but looks like you could really go long distance crusing in her. Is she also cutter rigged? Looks like it might be from the way the bowsprit is set-up. Can you get a broker or two to come out and look at her? Are you going to keep her or sell her? What's the condition inside? Engine? Sails?

Kenner Privateer!

Doug, Thanks. I got the suggested name "Privateer" from George Buehler of George Buehler Yacht Design, nice guy. A little web searching turned up the Kenner Privateer 26, c.1967. I saw one for sale at Grandpappy's on the web. Apparently it was a kit boat, though some were factory built. The fiberglass is in good shape, just needs a good sanding and paint. The gel coat has the usual hairline cracks, but the glass is thick and solid. This one is a ketch design, with wheel steering, and 4 sails. I'm not exactly sure how the 4th sail is set up, between the jib and the main. Inboard Atomic 4. We are planning on restoring and keeping her for now. I will try to document the restoration and post pictures up on a website sometime soon! Does anyone else have pictures of the ketch rigging (we have most of the hardware, so it won't be too hard to figure out anyway) thanks, -- Dave dag47@cornell.edu
