What is this pipe / drain for?

I have a 1980 C25. In the bilge, right under the swing keel winch, there is a pipe of about 1" diameter running forward out of the bilge, glassed in alongside the CB trunk. Can anyone tell me what this pipe is for, and where it leads? I'm fighting numerous water leaks, all from above the waterline, I think (hope!). I bailed a lot of water out of the bilge, and found that more water kept coming in through this pipe. The water does not smell nor taste like salt water, so I'm fairly certain it's not coming in through a hull breach. Thanks in advance, Jack

Curious...

Doesn't anyone with Catalina 25s hang out in this forum any more? For my last three posts here, someone has referred me to the www.catalina25-250.org site. I usually post in both sites, tho. Jack

Lots of present and past C25 owners here...but the C25/250 site is the most used with the most information.

Just a guess, but

Just a guess, but if I am imagining this thing right, could it be a conduit for drainage from further forward in your bilge? Perhaps there is an area further forward which cannot freely flow to your further aft area. Shower? Sink? If it isn't salt water, then it must, no, never say must on a boat, it may be from fresh water use somewhere or drainage from a topside compartment (anchor locker?) Good luck. Steve

re: Bert and Steve

Bert - Ah, that would explain things. Thanks! Steve - I was wondering whether the pipe may go into a space between the cabin sole and the outer hull. I just finished sealing and weatherstipping the anchor locker; it was definitely leaking badly around the drain tube. Hopefully, I've got that under control now. Water from there was getting into the v-berth storage locker, and also under the forward "cabin divider" into the head compartment, then onto the cabin sole. Maybe it was getting under the sole through cracks or something. There's another 1980 C25 at our marina. If I can catch the owner there sometime, I'll have to look at his bilge to see if he has a pump. Thanks, Jack

Just Another Thought

One more thought. When you have someone with you, take a plumbing snake and run it through the pipe. When it comes out the other end, you will know where the other end is by the sound the snake makes. That would give you a ballpark area to start looking in for your mystery water supply. If you think your water is a deck leak, run a garden hose on the foredeck and go below to await results. Good luck. Steve
