Does anyone know what this ring at the top of my rudder post is called so I can search for one?

looks like it does the same task as a bushing and from the looks of it you may have to have one made by a machinist out of uhmw or like material

Looks like your top post bearing. Is it always in that position? Or did you do something to raise the rudder? In that position it doesn't look like it is doing its job unless it goes much deeper. You could check with Foss Foam, the rudder manufacturer, to see if that is one of their products.

Upper rudder post bearing. I had the same one on my '83 h25. was cracked just as badly. I found a machinist to make a copy out of delrin. I think UHMW would work just as well.

Those are made from acetal delrin, I restore older sailboats for a hobby and have had to have several made. I use e plastics to make them for me.. they cost me for the hunter 27 about 80 bucks. just need to give them the OD. the ID and the size of the bolt going through the axis, I counter sink them at home so the shoulder bolt head and nut are recessed.

I can't recall the name of the guy that I talked to but they are very nice and its cheaper to have them make it IMHO because otherwise you order the delrin rod in foot lengths and then pay someone to machine it. And delrin is not so cheap. But for what its suppose to do make a frictionless service for the rudder against the plastic surface and extra support for not losing your rudder it works great. Its like a waxy feeling item.

Yes that is what its suppose to look like Its just a bushing and you cant buy them you have to have them made.

Only thing that looks suspicious is that the bolt looks like its threaded all the way through the middle .. maybe its just the picture. but should be a shoulder bolt with no threads on it.

Since they have experience making them, I will call eplastics.

Thanks.

just a word of caution here you may want to take measurments of your shaft and the od of your bushing and compare them just incase

Oh for sure... I am not sure they know what there making they go by the measurements you give them..

Must give them the thickness of the ring.. Outsid Diameter and inside diameter then tell them you need a hole through the axix give them the outside diameter.

I would make them myself but for the bolt going through the axis has to be dead center and the old eye ball dont do that well lol.

For example my OD was 4 " 1" thick center ring was 2" and bolt through the axis I belive was either 3/8 or 7/16 dont rember that one off hand for the recess I did that when I go tmy new bolt and cut to length... just use a bore bit to enlarge it about 1/4 in deep..

good luck

oh also get the white.. dont get black... absorbes to much heat, gets so warm it will bite you lol
