What is this line?

Looking over Oday owers mods on the site I found this pic of George Chamberlain's Oday 22. There is a line, it looks like a shroud, but it's in the wrong place. Can anyone tell me what that line is?

I ask because I have a mystery fitting that is about the same place as where that line seems to attach...and I've always wondered what it was for.

I'm going with lifeline, seems obvious now. Having none I don't know, but all the ones I've seen attach further back.

Looks like a lifeline to me, boat probably doesn't have a stern pulpit, so the lifelines terminate there to avoid being in the way further aft. Not really needed (well, except maybe as a backrest?) along the cockpit on a small boat like a 22 with no real side decks that far aft.
