I helped a friend bring his Beneteau 49 home to Quantico and when we stopped for the night in Point Lookout we saw this. It appears to be some kind of directional WiFi antenna. We were thinking this guy must love the Internet. Is that what it is?

Most likely TV.. UHF band for the digital channels..
Could be WiFi, hard to tell without more detail

The large ring looks like my TV antenna that I haul up a spare lanyard when I want to watch TV. The 4 smaller disks. I don't have a clue.

It is really hard to tell from the compressed photo, but it almost looks like a circularly polarized FM broadcast antenna.

Maybe he is broadcasting a low power pirate radio station?

It's used to contact the mother ship and tell them there's no intelligent life down here.

Ideas:
- Osprey nesting box
- daytime signal for Skipper has a box of Krispy Kreme donuts and there's 4 left.

Interesting though. Also note the climbing rungs.

Good Responses

I suspect it is a VHF, perhaps with a WiFi thrown in, perhaps it is a home made kludge. Kind of goes along with another boat there named "Sea Trek Voyager" that left us wondering if the owner ever had a date. Not that I am against Star Trek, but there are limits.
