off for a bit. I'm finishing some internal maintenance and starting to work on a bimini top. I need the split because I am 6'4" and I can't stand a backstay right by my head at the wheel. I'm not sure the adjuster will co-exist with a bimini, and I have to have the bimini - I also have red hair and freckles.... no sun for me!!! Peter, I'm wondering if some PO had a setup like you describe - there's an odd-looking shackle on one side of the split, about 2 feet down. Sounds like that might be what it is for.
