If the rudder is made of foam that flots, what is the center board made of? I hope it's not foam but the picture on this board of the worn out pinion hole makes me wonder. I have not pulled the center board on my 1982 model.

center board

The keel is made of lead embedded in fiber glass and resin. It's quite heavy but I can carry it and I'm not a big man. The pivoting pin is a bronze alloy wich I just replaced with stainless steel. That pin is in a bushing of about 1 inch and a half in outside diameter embedded in the resin. That bushing is made of material like UHMW or nylon. Hunter doesn't sell them anymore but you can have it made in any machine shop. I payed $25.00 for it Hope this help...

Thank You

I was conserned that it might be foam covered with fiberglass. I saw on another message that it weighted only 70 pounds. I think that 70 pounds is to light and have considered ways to increase the weight. I'm still thinking about it.

Centerboard is foam cored

on the Hunter 22. I was unfortunate enough to have a hard grounding which broke the fiberglass skin on the leading and trailing edges of the board. Mine was definitely a foam core. It may have had a small weight in it somewhere but I think the heavy fiberglass skin and resins were enough to keep the board down.

Foam, not lead

It is foam, I know, because I have done a lot of repair to mine! Actually, pulling on the centerboard line is what holds the board down - it is boyant, and will float up when the line is let go...just like the rudder...Seth

keel

There is foam in there, but there is a lead weight inside towrd the buttom. I know because I had to cut a notch in the buttom part of the keel to get it out while the boat was on the trailer and I had to cut in lead...
