What is the C.B. line/block connected to above?

I'm still having trouble understanding the connection for the centerboard controls on my 1976 DS II. How is this block system attached to the top of the cuddy as I have seen pictured? My setup looks similar to the lower half of the diagram and photo, but I seem to be missing something from the upper portion of the picture. I can't see anything on my boat that was ever there to attach anything to. Is this a standard CB setup for the DS II or is it an add on? Thanks again for the help.

under cuddy

Here is what my downhaul blocks look like under the cuddy. They are seen here untensioned. There is a small backing plate on the top of the cuddy. This is the standard setup for a DSII.

Very confused w/ CB rigging on 1976 DS II

What year is your daysailer? I believe mine is 1976. There is no place that a block was ever attached under the cuddy on my boat. Am I missing something, is this an add-0n, or is it a feature only on newer models? My setup is as follows: Directly in front of my mast step is a bungie attached to a small block to a cable which enters the front of the CB trunk. To the left of that is a metal loop. To the right is a plate with a block attached. There a a line coming out of the front top of the CB trunk which is approx 6'long. As I have said, there is no block system which attaches to the cuddy. There are two holes in the starboard side of the entrance to the cuddy which this lines obviously go through somehow and attach to a cleat. I'm just not sure how. I'm finding this very confusing. Please help. Thanks again.

same system

The system you describe is identical to mine. It is a continuous line which goes out the two holes on the starboard side and runs to a cleat on the side of the cb trunk. (That is one continuous line.) I won't show you that picture, but there is a rigging schematic at this site http://groups.msn.com/RogerConrad/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=97 The picture I am including is the top side of the previous picture I posted. The down haul line that comes out of the top of the cb trunk terminates in the shackle of the lower block that you see in the picture previously posted. The returning line from the cleat (that is the same line as the uphaul on the cuddy floor) runs forward through the top hole in the bulkhead turns around a block on the side of the forward cb trunk up through the top block in the previously posted picture, turning through the lower block (the terminal end of the cb downhaul line going into the top hole of the cb trunk), then up to the eye of the top block. (This give you a 2:1 purchase on the downhaul). It sounds like you are missing that whole 2 block system at the top. Of the DS II's that I have seen, they are all alike, so I would say it is stock. The attached picture is the backing plate for that top block, so you have an idea of where it is placed. It is inbetween the two middle cleats. I'll submit another post with a better picture of the continuous line on the starborad side of the cb.

better picture of the continuous line

Here is a better picture of the continuous line on the starborad side of the cb. In this picture the lines are tensioned, although the board is in the up position. It does not show how the lines run around the blocks as well as the first picture I posted with the lines untensioned. You mentioned a bungee. After August 1975, models of the DSII had a 10.5" shock cord as part of the system to keep the downhaul lines taut, yet allow the cb to pop up if it hit an obstruction. That might be part of what you are seeing. Mine is a 1974 model.

Thanks Roger

That's a little more helpful. I'm not sure why, but there definately isn't a plate between the two halyard cleats at the top of the cuddy where a 2 block system or anything else was ever attached at the top of the cuddy. Where would I find one? (There is a West Marine not too far away. would they carry one) and does it have a specific name? Thanks again Larry

they do have names

But your best bet is to print out the pictures and get blocks that will do the same function. That way you won't name it wrong, or somebody won't misunderstand you and give you the wrong one. Remember, you'll need three blocks, one on the cb trunk side, and two for the 2:1 purchase. You will also need two eye straps for attaching, and a backing plate, although if you are at all handy, you can make one out of ss scrap. As I look in the Ronstan catalog, the names and product number from the top block to the bottom are RF470 single block becket with ferrule eye head, RF571 single block loop head, and the bottom one is the same RF571 single loop block. Although I am not familiar with West marine, I think that from seeing other posts, that they would carry such items. Now that you have the numbers, you could likely order them over the phone, although you will have to get ss bolts nuts and screws as well for attaching.
