So I recently bought a 1974 Mariner that is my baby/ project boat. I have retored several boats in the past, but this one is mine! In any case, there is a compartment in the cabin on the starboard side on the V berth. It is just this square cut out. any qlue what it is/ what it is for?

I have a '70 2+2

I have a '70 Mariner. In my cabin there is no compartment on the starboard (right) side that I can recall. In the center of the cabin there is area with the base for a toilet/porta-potty. On the Port side there is a basin with a small pump faucet. The basin portion can be covered with piece of plywood notched on one end. Congrats on the Mariner. Great boat, stable, and forgiving. If you haven't checked them out out yet there are a couple of good Mariner sites. The Yahoo site a photo album that may help you identify various things as you begin you rehab. So many projects

ThankS FOR THE RESPONSE. I know how great this boat is. I actually have been sailing mariners since 1991- It really is a great design. When I was looking at this boat, I had a sugestion from an engineer to walk away becuase for a little bit more money, i could get a lot more boat. But its a mariner! Thanks Dan for your insight. Mine also has the little sink basin on the port side. The faucet was not working right so i took it out. where does the hose for that facet go to? I am just wondering what this starboard compartment is. Is your boat electrified? Where do you have the electronics installed? Is there a raised floor in yours? I am thinking about putting one in.

Don't what that compartment is for

I had a chance to look at some pics of a '72 or newer Mariner and saw the compartment you were referring to on the starboard side. It is isn't there on my '70. The hose for the faucet ran through the V-berth and came out through a hole in on the port side of the foremost compartment. My Mariner is pretty simple. No electricity, no electronics (other than a hand held VHF radio) and the floor is not raised. I've only had mine about a year and had do some fairly extensive hull repairs. May be I'll get around to adding some the "good stuff" once I get the boat's condition where I want it. Good luck, Dan
