I found this picture on Yachtworld. This engine is in a 1986 Catalina 34. What is the unit installed on the front of the engine. Thanks

Best guess

I suspect that it is a hydraulic pump. Trace the tubing connections to whatever it powers. Im sure someone on the site can give you a positive answer. What is the make and model of the engine? Enjoy the boat. John

From what I can see kinda looks like a rotary

refrigeration or A/C compressor driven off the crankshaft.
