Will someone clear up this mystery to me....It's hank on. Found it on my "new" 1960 New Horizon whose name used to be "Night Wind". I'm thinking of changing it to "Lichenwald"(sp?)as the only place I have seen more lichens is on a tree trunk!

Pretty thin straping

and it has four hanks(if that's the proper name for those brass thingies....).

Foretriangle dam

I was reading about the problem of spinnaker wraps around the headstay on another forum and someone suggested using a foretriangle dam to prevent this. I was wondering what the heck that could be. I think you just answered the question for me.

I missjudged the size, it coul be a

bow dingui holder.. It was definitely home made for a specific purpose. Let us know when you find it.

It could be attached to the stem head fitting and spread over a sail on

the foredeck to keep it for blowing around when you douse it for lunch.

I'd say

That if the webbing is stout enough, with the hanks it would secure to a lifeline and be tied off to the stanchion bases, then hauled up the mast for use as a ladder. I've climbed with flimsier looking constructs.

other 'guesses' sound good too.

Overall dimensions would help with id or guesses.

Ken.

Jib shaped

with a luff=24'6"
leach=22'6"
foot=6'2"

The foot is tied as close as I could to square with the porch posts to try to show the jib/sail shape. Could it be to give a bit of rudder in a bad storm situation?

how bout a rescue divice

Hook the bottom on the rail and the top to a halyard. lower it in the water,
move the injured or drowning person over it ap pull the halyard. lift the guy up an dump him on the deck..

Looks like

...ratlines to me. Sounds like a good idea. Wish I could buy some instead of a bosuns chair.

Its a Spinnaker Net

It is a spinnaker net. The net is hoisted like a jib and prevents the spinnaker from wrapping around the forestay. Commonly used by racers and cruisers alike when offshore to keep the spinnaker from wrapping around the forestay if & when the boat surfs on a wave and outruns the apparent wind - which will cause the spinniker to wrap.

Thanks to BobV and Brian

Now I can quit wondering. Thanks also to everyone else that took time to reply....Now - if I could just get the lichens cleaned off my new boat. It is currently at Spring City Marina in Spring City, TN.
