With the main sail fulley raised does it make a difference if the boom is above or below the grove in the mast where the boom is installed and the sail slides enter into the mast track?

James, I don't quite understand the reason for

this question. But, with the boom installed on the mast, at the factory supplied location, the "rams horn fitting" is just below the insertion point for the main sail slides with the stopper just above the insertion point. This is the set-up on my 95 H26. If the boom was above this point then the boom would require mounting/un-mounting to install/remove the main sail. With the foot of the main installed on the boom this would be an unmangable task. Why? Ray s/v Speedy

Boom Height

James; Catalina used to mount the boom to a slide in the luff slot on the smaller boats instead of a fixed mount. I think this was for adjusting the main luff tension. If your boom is above the 'gate' then one of two things are the cause; 1 you have the wrong main sail, or 2 you are hoisting too high. Mike
