First I want to say thank you to all that wrote back to me, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you (of course) to Peggie! Ok, seems that the problem is a bad wet valve and I do not have a vented loop. Could someone please describe what exactly it is what it looks like? If you can't answer that in this forum, I can be e-mailed at JohnnyG232@aoll.com Thanks again, John Giaccio new owner of the "VooDooLady" Bayshore,NY

Oversimplified description of a vented loop:

It's an anti-siphon device.... A hose fitting--can be bronze or PVC--shaped into a 180 degree arch that has a nipple on the top which has a hole in it. A one way air valve which only allows air to get out and prevents air or anything else from escaping threads into the hose in the nipple. You can see pictures of 'em on page 251 of the WM 2000 Sailboat Master Catalog. Anti-siphon devices ONLY prevent siphons from occuring...they cannot prevent water "ram water" (water forced up a hose while underway) from being forced over the top of 'em. So, while a vented loop can allow you to leave the seacock open while you're in the slip or at anchor, it will not allow you to do so while underway.
