What is a SELDEN Reversible Winch Handle

I will be the first to admit that sometimes I am not all that mechanically challenged and don't quite see how something works from the picture. I was looking at winches and I have no idea why his would be important. Can anyone clue me in on how this is supposed to work?

Well, I think it's a high-end product that most of us can do without, considering the price. But the purpose is fairly obvious, and I think I'd love to have it if I had the denero.

It is probably one of those things that you can live without, but once you have it you can't live without it.

The selden reversible winch isn't that much more expensive... Many outlets sell the #30 size, which is certainly adequate for my 27 footer, for $1,190! http://www.layline.com/us/category/1-Selden-Rewind-Reversible-Winches.html

I like them....though they may be rather slow to cast off in a quick tack, but time will tell regarding their durability. I would love to try one in action.... the single handing advantages are obvious.

OOPS! I was checking out the APS pricing for the R30 at $1,400. Is that a two-speed, self-tailing winch?

I've been putting off the upgrade with a Lewmar 2-speed, self-tailing winch for precisely this reason ... ever since these Seldens came on the radar a few seasons ago.

I wonder if the price is dropping because they seemed more expensive when I first looked at them.

Is this one of those deals where Selden has a patent and the other winch makers won't be able to compete for awhile? Once the others can sell them, price may drop more, I suppose.

I agree with Joe, I think I'd love to have them.

Was not thinking it was a different kind of winch. Was just looking for winch handles and could not figure out what was so special about this one.

To put in a reverse mode, you push the button on the top of the handle.
