Okay, I think it is used for the shrouds, but not sure. What would it look like?

correct

The chainplate connects the shrouds to the deck or hull of the boat. It is the very bottom piece in this picture. The multi hole item is called a shroud adjuster.

Chainplates

Dwayne, on the boat you've been looking at, it's probably a stainless steel plate that goes through the deck, and attaches to a bulkhead inside.

Ohhhh k

Now I see. For some reason I was expecting something bigger, not sure why. The boat I am looking at has a leak in one of the chain plates and needs to be resealed.

You're just starting -

You noted that your bulkheads were in need of replacement. Not just one, but all have to replaced in order to give your chainplates the integity that they require to hold up the mast. You can't do a half-assed job of fibreglassing them up - the bulkheads have to be replaced with new ones. Use the old ones as templates. When that is done, then you can secure the shroud chainplates. When you finish that job, then you can seal the chainplates between the deck and bulkheads. Don't forget to reseal them every year, or else you will be replacing your bulkheads again in 10. Good luck.

Bulkheads will be replaced

I'm going to be removing the bulkheads completely, and making new ones out of either the stuff C10 ?? I saw at the West Systems website, or I'll make the bulkheads out of aluminum, and encase in nice wood, teak?? Now my understanding is that there is two bulkheads, one port one Starboard located just under where the mast sits atop, and its made of Marine plywood. Not sure how the chain plates are conected, do all the chainplates connect to the bulkhead as well?? I can't wait for that book to come in by Don Casey.

G10 Composite

I didn't look very far. Maybe you can get a better price. I found 4'x8'x1/2" G10 composite board for about $975.00 per sheet. I would suggest a quality marine plywood and duplicate the original installation.

975!!!!!!

$975!!! ummm, ya Plywood is just fine. I'll just make sure to cover it with some varnish or something to keep as much moisture out of it as possible.
