Yes Woodster. I think you got it! Is that how VA does a boat cradle? I guess it would make some sense if it was going on a flat bed trailer. Looks cold.

You found someone at Johnson's willing to go out in the snow with the travel lift.

Just kidding really...those guys were hard workers. Constantly doing paint jobs, etc in the shop all winter long, so the lift was likely in pretty constant use. Sign of the times, though. Owner retired recently, and the property has been sold for a condo development. Luckily, we have one marina business left in town. They have recently been doing some expansion, but winter boat storage in town is getting slim.

Picking the boat up by the cradle does look weird, but if you're putting the whole works on a truck I guess that's how you'd do it. And boats and snow just don't go together.

Yep, Finger Lakes Boat Service is pretty much the only game in Ithaca these days. I have to admit that they've treated me pretty terrific, and their staff is fairly minimal. My winter storage was on the Parking Lot at Treman State Marine Park. This is how they move boat and cradle these days back to the boat yard and launch dock. Air lift lo-boy trailer raises cradle and boat in one unit.

Must say that I'd never seen a strap-lift rig pick up both components simultaneously before.

That's also my vote for unusual. The other possibility is that worn tires don't work too good on packed snow and ice.

That wing keel must be REAL stable in the water! Chief
Sure is stable, it even allows me to climb right up on any beach, unfortunately it makes the boat handle like a flat bottom garbage scow.

Why is the boat being lifted a Capri 26 yet the boat being hauled a Hunter 30?
Different contributors, different boats. Talking about ways to move boat and cradle together as being unusual. The Capri is Crazy Dave's contribution. The Hunter 30 is mine!

I think the guy walking with the travel lift to his back in the snow talking on the cell phone is the crazy part!

Woodster, you won. I had sold the boat originally and the owner was transferred to NY. The weather forecast was for sunny and cool weather in late march but on the way there was a report of a severe snowstorm. I had washed the boat off and the pads were wet when I left SML, VA in late March. Got up there and the weather was a chilly 10 degrees where it was 75 back in Virginny. That cradle froze to the hull when trying to lift the boat off the cradle. They put that boat and cradle down fast. All was fine but that never happennned again. Also I was freezing my tush off having left with spring time clothing.
