I am looking to replace the 20 year old Gray portlights on my Hunter 37C. I had a link to the Thrifty Mariner website, but now its dead! Anyone know if they are still in business & how to reach them? Their 'factory seconds' prices were what I could handle...

Somebody indicated that they were closed.

Too bad but for the year and 1/2 I have tried to contact then they were basically unreachable. I'm not suprised they went out of business.

Too bad.

I purchased some hatches from Thrifty, really well priced. You might call Pompanette and see if they have seconds. The fellow who ran Thrifty worked for them and, I think, was their outlet for seconds. Do you need a few or many? Just parts or entire replacements? Several of us have removed them and have a few pieces/parts. I might have two or three complete ones, both sizes(5x12 and 7x14). And most Cherubinis used those same sizes. Problem is that in most cases the outside frame came off in pieces.

I'll check at Oakland show

I also tried unsuccessfully to reach them several times. I have not been able to find bargain priced ports so far, but will start looking harder in a few weeks. I am planning to seek out the Pompannette folks at the Oakland boat show in a few weeks. I'll see if they have any information worth sharing about seconds. If it turns out the prices are high on the cheap plastic jobs, that might encourage me to consider stainless or Beckson or others... Sanders

I want em' Ed

Ed Schenk - if you find this message please contact me at pbd@pressenter.com because I will gladly purchase the extra hatches you might have laying around. I am in the process of replacing mine and would welcome the extras on our 1980 37C, "EASY". Thanks!

Watch for sale items at Sailnet.com...

I, also, could not reach Thrifty, and found my 7X15 Bomars (plastic) on sale at Sailnet for $64 each. You have to be patient. I ordered mine 2/14 and they arrived this morning, 4/4.

Cheap Jerry?

Having installed the bronze NFM ports, and slaved to get them in right, I have a new appreciation for the Gray portlights. Those things held up remarkably well considering they were 20+ years old. I had no leaks, just the usual cracked frames and a missing dog or two. Probably should have stuck with them, would have enough money left over for radar. :)
