Hi folks, I have a 75 Oday 22. Looking throught the D&R Marine site I saw a "Mast Step Casting". It appears to go on the bottm end of the mast and possibly sit on the tabernacle. Or, assuming I need it, does it just rivit to the bottom of the mast and you install the tabernacle pin and it swings up on the pin when raising the mast? I have not raised my mast yet and was wondering if I need one of these mast step castings? I have the Tabernacle Pin. I always wondered if there should be more support at the bottom of the mast than the pin. Is the weight of the mast on the taberacle pin or sitting on the tabernacle itself? Help!!!!! Thanks in advance! Jack

later boats

The mast-hinge style tabernacle that Joe shows was used on later model year 22s (I think 1978-83?) and on the 222. D&R Marine is showing this for the later models, I have a feeling that Rudy either doesn't have a source for the older tabernacle (and that would surprise me if he didn't!) or else he has not had enough call for the older models to put it on hte web site. The newer version could be installed on older boats buy modifying the foot of the mast (mast-hinge would require cutting about 1-2" off mast foot), but if your original tabernacle is still in good shape (pictures in your other posting appear good) there is no reason to change. On a related note, with no plug/cap on the foot of the mast you should avoid the corrosion problems caused by water getting trapped inside the foot of the mast.

...the boat. Sorry, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title...I'll go away now. Cheers, Bob

If you have the tabernacle

and the pin is in the mast, that is all you need to raise it. Is there something wrong with the tabernacle? The weight of the mast is supported by the bulkhead in the cabin. A long as the tebernacle is screwed into the deck you should be good to go.
