We're fine! (Burp).

Just kidding of course. I too am interested in finding out what happened. The only rats I've run into have been human ones (stole my outboard at my mooring).

Racoons!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe the racoons are eating the rats!!! Actually last weekend I saw a racoon on the dock. It was a younger coon and it jumped into the water and hid under the dock. I have seen several around the docks but this is the first one that I have seen on the docks. Racoons are predators and probably eat mice and maybe rats.

Ahhh my rats. Whatta way to be remembered;). The guy that had those big damn rats....

In a desperate move I had to actually pull the boat out of my dockage to break their cycle of partying(and to flee hurricane Faye). After bringing the boat back 3mths later I was ready for the continuation of my rat battle. Taking the offense before they found that I'd returned I cut a couple of pieces of easily removed yet snug fitting plywood inserts to eliminate the two points of entry below deck. I also left the bada$$ trap poised for the first entrant that might out wit my defense.

At this point the tide of the battle seems to be with me. Funny that I found this thread today. I had just told somebody of the ingenious idea posted by someone here. A 5gl bucket w/2gl of antifreeze and a rolling jar smeared w/peanut butter on a rod so they roll off into the AF. Now that's a rat trap. Drowned and pickled in antifreeze. It only seems brutal to those who haven't fought this war.
The rat guy..lmao

Glad This Popped up Again

The tree rats have returned here and I forgot about the bucket trap. I was going to try it with vodka whatever was cheapest at the PX.

So I am "the rat bucket guy"

So I am remembered as the rat bucket guy!! This thing will work, voice of experience. Now with racoons you would need a barrol!!!

Tree rats? That is a scary thought, never heard of them. Don't anchor under a tree!!

Good luck, Dean

Tree rats down here are aka squirrels. BB gun or a small varmint cage should do it. Eliminate the food or shelter source anyway. Vodka.....now there's a novel idea. hey they'd die happy.

Can't Eliminate the Food nor the Shelter

We have about 50 oak trees and a half dozen pine trees. Yet the bastards chew on my grill and pool equipment. They have also eaten the lead cover on all the stand pipes on the roof. The BB gun works great and with the optional scope available it works even better.

How about a cure for a frigging wood pecker. I had one at my old house and now have one at our new house. The males get kicked out in the fall and then come and drill holes in my trim boards. I think the damage is easily in the thousands now if I pay someone to do the work.
