You are probably right. He didnt slowly fade, he just disappeared. Franklin more or less did the same thing....puff and he's gone. Same with Herb Parsons and lots of others. Is it possible they found a life? Tony B

Tonyb, I have come close a few times.

Too much quibbling and bickering about unimportant things.

Franklin

I saw Franklin last night. He just got tired of this site. I used his name as an example. Actually, that is what got me thinking about some of the old regulars. Tony B

My theory

Some people leave because there are people on these forums who seem to think they are God's gift to sailing. The same people also tend to be acerbic in their tone. Nobody likes to be lectured by know-it-all jerks.

The tone of the board

Last year, things got pretty testy quite often. i really liked the tone of the board over this winter. People disagreed, but usually were respectful and civil.

Higgs...

You can't possibly be talking about the Sails Call Lounge! It's brutal in there.

Rich (303) Over in the SCL (bilge) everybody plays by the same rules

but here in the civilized part of the world we have had some who played rough and tumble. We like to rise above that but sometimes someone figures out how to push our buttons.

No - here

I thought things got pretty nasty here last winter - not like the sails call lounge, but at times, not real polite, here. One guy said to me, "who the f*** are you to..." and another accused me of poor seamanship because I said that, generally, not technically, a 150 genoa overlaps the mast by 50% of the foretriangle. It got pretty nasty at times.

Dear All,

I don't know much, but I really appreciate those of you who do know something and take the time to respond to questions/discussions. Your knowledge, experience, tips and thoughts are very helpful to people like me. It's sad that some people can't participate in a civil discussion or disagreement and all of us suffer because of it. So, to all of you who have been driven away and those of you who are still here. Thank you for your time and effort.

I'm glad this came up

I have missed Franklins posts. He brought alot to this forum, especially to us landlocked sailors who dream of sailing big waters. I also miss R. W. Landau, excusse spelling, even though we sail the same lake, He dosent post often enough, like he used to. He has a ton to offer. I miss Rick Webb. We sparred some, though I hope it was in fun, I hope I didnt discourage him. He has alot to offer, and if there was one guy I would like to sail with in upper Gulf it would be him. Glad to see Peter Suah on line. Good post about c22, Ha! There are more, and I'm I'm sorry i didnt include your names. The last year has been tough. Way too hard. Glad this was brought up!

Franklin is quite active

Frankiln has his boat out just about every weekend. He does a lot of solo sailing also. Last fall he entered his boat in the Harvest Moon Regatta fron Galveston Bay to Port Aransas, Texas. He is now preparing his boat for a race from Galveston Bay to Veracruz in June. He's meeting with potential crew mates today. Tony B
