I'm not on here much anymore, but I was wondering how Patrick with the 33 Morgan was coming along. The last I remember was that he moved his boat to a new location.

I was thinking of him too...

I was wondering how his project was going too. Maybe he'll chime in soon

Letterman, I have been here awhile. Those that are seeking advice and are welco

Sometimes, if you don't give people the answers they want, they leave. Please, keep giving good advice. It needs to be sound to keep this forum what it is. Much respect for those that feel responsible for their replies. (and post their real names:)) r.w.

Oh great..

Oh great we're back to "only those who post their real names are legitimate and post the best advice";D So what is your real name R.W.? Robert Wallace Landau?? Do initials count in this game? *O I think Patrick came looking for a bunch of folks to justify his intentions and perhaps did not get the answers he was necessarily looking for. I think he'll be back he's just very, very busy working on his new boat..

Patrick had his work cut out for him when we last heard

from him. If he took to heart all that he learned here in terms of priorities and not jumping from one thing to another without getting anything done. I think we will hear from him one day with a report of progress. He did exchange thoughts and plans with us. When he finally took possesion of the boat he knew what he was getting into and how long it could take. It has been what? 2 months?

Maine Sail, that was just for you!

My name in the phone book is R.W.landau. But now youse guys are the only ones that know that. r.w. is one of my wifes names for me when ...well you know... I hope Patrick is not only doing well but will come back. His work could use some advice from people that have taken on big loads. r.w.landau

R.W.

So are you saying I'm not responsible for my responses or posts?? I don't get your points? Unless of course you meant to put a 'winkie" after that last post..??

Maine Sail, is your input here valuable?

If it is, don't let it get under your skin. I think your input is good. You don't have to be politically correct, if you are right. You just need to be right, with love, understanding that not everyone will be up to speed. I think sometimes this forum, not you, blows newbies out of the water because we want to impress them. It is more important to teach them. just an opinion... r.w.

we realy need more response from the newbe

If the answer they get doesn't fit their need, they should clarify their question. Mainesail said a bit ago that Tef-gel was much different then teflon filled pipe joint compound. In some regards I have no doubt that it is. For the price it should be. However I doubt that the net difference is all that great because no one will ever use Tef-gel as pipe joint compound and teflon pipe joint compound is so danged messy that most folk wouldn't let it near the boat. Teflon pipe joint compound will seal against hot caustic solutions to 10,000 psi and still allow the pipes to be unscrewed years later. Tef-gel will seal against sea water and still allow SS screws to be removed from aluminum years later. Both good products.

I agree with that sentiment!

Quote: "I think sometimes this forum, not you, blows newbies out of the water because we want to impress them. It is more important to teach them." And we've all been guilty of this myself included. It's ver easy to talk over a newbies head even when you don't mean too. I make and effort to not do that even when the question is sometimes so silly that you wonder if it's just someone jerking our chains but it happens. I think this forum offers 90% great advice 85% of the time but there are always a few shoot from the hip types who speak without knowing the first thing about what they are pontificating about. For the most part these folks that give bad advice are clearly apparent and stand out in a thread so it's no big deal.. The thing I like most about this forum is that people tend take safety and self sufficiency seriously!! No hard feelings R.W. I knew that was directed at me that's why I played along... P.S. Ross Tef-Gel is really worth about three dollars but unfortunately I have found nothing to equal it's prevention of galvanic corrosion so I bend over and pay the $12.00. I remember paying $39.00 for an ABSORBER artificial chamois in the mid eighties. I actually still have the original one I bought, in the original plastic case, and it still works well! To this day I'm still using that same brand "Absorber" and have yet to find a better artificial chamois. The company sold so many, because of the reputation they earned, that I now pay about $8.00 for one and the quality is still just as good as the original I bought in the 80's!! Perhaps in ten years Tef-Gel will sell for $3.00...

chill pill time

Geez, they post something like "My boat needs fixin" and we go to town! What kind of boat? What size? How old? What needs fixin? Etc. Etc. This is one damn good site and we all try our best to answer any question with honesty, knowledge and more. And sometimes, the questions beg a smart alack response! And we give them that too! We even have Boat Babes!!!

Ross, that was a bit challenging to Maine sail, under the wrong conditions.

That should have been posted when it happened, and not as a Maine Sail is too specific, but this is an alternative to Maine Sails info. Really , I hope every one reads this because it is not Ross , or, Maine Sail, it is everyone. Please, put egos aside here and when someone challenges you, think about how you would want someone to agree or disagree with you. Then think about how to respond without challenging someone else. Facts are facts. Flipping a finger wins no debates. I love when you guys post within your total understanding. It is done with info and calm. When it is challenged, it gets pretty rough or, someone agrees. When the info starts to fail and get defensive, the egos get going. Heh, I am guilty too. I think we should be men enough to be accountable to the others here. If the info is bad, say it is and back it up. If it is a random question, who is ever right? Back to newbies, We already know it all...:). let's help (not show) them with how to resolve their problem/question. Let's keep the focus on helping people, not hurting them. We don't hurt the newbies, they just leave, we inflict wounds on eachother. Ok, I'm done, I don't know why I went here but there it is.. Looking for spring, by the way I was gone February 2 and then at 11 PM My 1st grandson was born. What did the ground hog Punxy Phil say about spring? r.w.landau you guys always do this to me. I take 30 to 45 minutes to respond and there are so many replies...I am getting old. By the way, you need to give me 20 minute or so to edit my posts to say what I was thinking. Ok, so I can't type either. Yes I am college educated. A bit slow, but educated.

And with the present Boat Babe all total newbie should have to pay $2.99/min to log on! And Maine Sail can call himself anything he wants if he will lend his photography skills to Boat Babe forum.

Puxny Phil said about six more weeks, but maybe

only a month and a half. Full moon and lunar eclipse tomorrow if your skies are clear. R.W. and Maine Sail, sometimes this forum is like a tavern with a lot of tables and we move around a lot. I tend to take what ever is on my mind from one place to another. Don't mean to blind side anybody and I apologise if I have offended.

BOAT BABES ?????

When? Where was I? I was only gone 5 minutes. How come no one told me? Can she steer without jibing? Can she clap on a proper cleat hitch? (I love that sailor talk!) Can she make a decent sandwich? Is this politicaly correct? Am I supposed to care?

Thanks Jim, Cody is in Traverse City Michigan and I am in Pittsburgh.

I am seriously concidering buying a small boat in Michigan so that I can chose when he will go sailing. I think his mom would want to go too. My son-in-law is into power. r.w.landau
