In general use, an M flag means "this vessel is stopped". In sailboat racing, it means "this vessel (or object) is here to replace a missing mark of the course."

It seems we have a funny guy in our midst. I have showed several friends the "scissors post" and I am yet to have one not smile or straight out laugh.
Others did laugh at Kermit ‘s scissors post. To each his own. I responded as the design was not representative of the manufacturer as some suggested. We could use more laughter in this world
