I took this pic yesterday on the first sail of the year for me, Not the greatest but it's all I've got, From looking at it does anything jump out at you?

Thanks.

The main is too loose and varies the slot causing the middle of the jib to appear out of trim????????

That's a question not an answer.

What Does Picture Tell You

One the sail is not used enough ! Those deep wrinkles are a giveaway.. Ya need to sail more ! ;)
Needs a little more luff tension until the "v" puckers at the hanks disappear. Try a little less leech line tightness to un-cup the leech.. Sail appears to have too much twist .. ya might want to move the sheet block aft a bit and let out a bit of sheet ..
I need to qualify this by telling ya that I am not nearly an expert on sail trim ..

The pic isnt the best but the main looks kind of baggy could be either a slack hoist on the halyard and loosly tied off clew. Or an older stretched out sail

Re: looking at pic

Headsail riding on the spreader, chafe woulod be a problem. More wind would take those wrinkles out, but you were sailing and I'm not so cheers.

To get rid of twist do exactly the opposite of what Kloudie1 suggested. :)

Well the main is VERY old and baggy but that is gonna have to wait till next year.

It was the first sail on this new to me Jib I bought, I wonder if the person selling it actually knows what a tape measure is, it's about 3' longer in the foot than expected and instead of getting a 135 it's about a 155 :(. But it's not returnable so I'll figure out how to deal with it.

Sail had been boxed so with luck the wrinkles will come out eventually, ALmost had too much wind today! I finally came back in wasn't worth a knock over I thought.

As for the picture I was curious what folks would see, I do need to build a vang for the boom maybe I can get some of the twist out. The sheet block is at the end of the boom on my boat.

Yes, a vang is a major mainsail shape tool.

I once purchased a mainsail for a Coronado 25 off of eBay. The price was right.

The sail was in decent condition but it arrived about 2' to long in the luff... But it had two sets of reef points so I just sailed a season with one set of reef in at all times. The sail actually worked very well.

All the poo pooing about the wrinkles aside, it looks like all the tell-tails are streaming back nicely on the windward side, can't see the leeward side so we don't have the whole story.
What was the wind speed, boat speed?
Perhaps all the poo pooing is misplaced if the wind is less than 5 knots!!!! I know that at 5 and less knots my well used sails can show wrinkles at the beginning of the season

Wind speed was less than 7mph that day, I don't know what the boat speed was but she moved fairly nicely.

Ok long enough with the suspense. So what's wrong or right with the sail? :)

Hehe heck if I know... Was only maybe the tenth time I've been on a sailboat! I wanted to see what experts would say so I could learn....
