What does my boat number mean ?

I"m restoring an Oday 22 and uncovered the number on the transom . Can anyone tell me if this gives the date of construction ?

XD 1(orT?) J 1 (or T?) 795 M761

It appears that you have an Oday 22 built in April of 1976. It appears to be hull number 1795 of that year.

Actually Robin, it might be a blessing.
Fibreglassing was still sort of new in those days. They did not yet know how much fibreglass to put in them so your boat is probably 'overbuilt' from that prospective compared to an 81' or so model.
