Have you seen this? NOT USCG approved but.... Uses the same chemical found in dry fire extinguishers.

Only available at worst marine at this time.
That looks too good to be true. Seems like an interesting product.

I installed an automatic system (fireboy, I think) in my engine compartment. I also installed an automatic engine shut down with it. Pretty straight forward wiring. I believe ABYC requires engine shut down system with automatic extinguishers in engine compartments since a running diesel will quickly evacuate the suppression gas. The automatic shut down has a provision to manually restart if for some reason that would be necessary.

Other then that I have an extinguisher at the helm, in the galley, and in the v berth. The fire blanket is a good idea and I think I will put that on the list.

I like the potassium jets. A,B,C, E and F rated, zero thrust (so no spread of flammable liquids), non pressurized, small, zero residue but remains in play long enough to suppress later flames, and safe to use with people inside an enclosed place.

I have one in each car I own and a few on my boats (that have engines and or electrics). One of these saved my old and loved car from an electric short in a fan motor.

I buy mine from Griots but you may find them cheaper elsewhere.
