My boat came with a brand new Jib and an older well used Jib that has some holes and tears in it. I just rigged her up with the new headsail and see no use for the worn out sail. Do you just trash old sails?

This is not a usual use: Old sails might make an interesting temporary shade awning for the patio or back lawn. Have seen bags made from old sails... could make some for boat lines, etc.

list them on the classifieds, gear for sale (or free) section.... someone wants it for the material.

turn it into sunshades for the boat, ditty bags, running line storage bags, lots of stuff.

I understood that an old sail might be used to slow water coming in from a hull breach by tying it around the hull. I guess it doesn't seem realistic for a fiberglass hull application.

Our club (Rcyc) collects old sails once a year. They are donated to a charity that uses them for shelter covers.
