Sounds like a Day Sailer
Gary, I think you have a Day Sailer, there should be a D S on the sail, they are kind of set on a diagonal. Check out www.daysailer.org for pictures, that is the Day Sailer Association web-site. If your boat was built after October 1, 1972 there should be a Hull I.D. Number molded into the transom, this will tell you a lot. Others have given you the web-site to decypher the number, but here is a run down anyway: XDY = O'Day, "D" = Day Sailer, xxxx = hull# also sail#, Myym or mmyy = month and year of construction (M79E = 1979 model, built in Dec. 1978) (1279 = December 1979) The whole HIN would look like: XDYD1234M77A or XDYD12340777. (once the number of Day sailers reached 9999, O'Day switched the HIN a bit, XDY10101M79B-D)If your boat was built before Oct 31, 1972 there should be a metal plate with two numbers on it, a Hull# and a Class#. Hull Number refers to how many Total Boats O'Day had built, Class Number refers to how many of that model O'Day had built (so if a boat was Hull# 1200, Class# 29 that would be the 1200th O'Day built and the 29th of that model) This plate is usually on the forward flotation tank or the inside of the transom.Spec sheets: There is a pretty good (although not complete yet) listing of O'Day boat specs posted at : http://home.att.net/~oday/index.htmI have limited specs in my personal library as well!Replacement parts: For "O'Day" specific parts, you can't beat D&R Marine in Assonet, MA (508) 644-3001, fax(508) 644-3002 www.odaysailboats.comFor Day Sailer parts you can also try Cape Cod Shipbuilding in Wareham, MA.
