Good morning,
Last month there was a post on names for boat parts. I finally got some pictures of a steering fin (?) on the bottom of a sailing ship. The boat is full keel and steel-bottomed. I did see what the third picture was used for, quite handy if you entertain a lot.

Dear All,

What you are looking at is a stabilizer fin. There is another one on the other side of the vessel and they are connected with a hydraulic system to move them. A computer monitors the rolling moment of the hull and the system moves the fins to minimize the roll of the boat. These are common on large power vessels so their placement on a sailing vessel may mean that it is really a "power vessel with masts".
