Photo taken 3/25/07 at Oceanside Harbor, Oceanside Ca. Boat name is Tempest and hailing port is Dana Point. Very beautiful boat indeed. Took my breath away.

If I remember Correctly

... it is a restored 8-meter. Used in sailing programs from the Dana Point Maritime Society (or something like that). We saw it there at the city docks when we were anchored there two years ago and that's what a local told us. Maybe someone can true that up. Rick D.

Not an 8 meter

Looks more like a 18 meter to me. That boat is about sixty ft. long. Check the size of the guy in the cockpit. Or maybe that is Mini Me's boat. EEEEEEEEEEE! Tim

Right, Tim

It looks longer that the one we saw, which I'd guess at thirty to thirty five feet. I assume the meter rule isn't literal length as much as a box formula, but my memory may be faulty. Rick D.

I did a search...

On the name and hailing port and only found one reference, but no pictures. The data put the boat (possibly) as a 54' 1937 restored wooden boat. That's it. Hate it when that happens.

is a lot of work! Looks like a lot of wood. But she is pretty. I would think it is small inside too.

I agree that it is wooden at least ten man lengths

long, a very early boat in a series, sail number 3, six port lights, diffinately not small inside. Very well kept. I don't want her but I wish that I could afford to keep her.

Dont think it is an 8 meter

unless there were some substantial changes made. There is a fleet of 8 meters here in Toronto so I have seen them on the race course for years. There really isnt much of a cabin top on an 8 meter- take a look at the ones on this link. BTW- the 8 meter designation is not because the boat is 8 meters ( 26 ft) long.

Agree it's not an 8 meter

The closest I can come is a New York 32 about 45' - which I haven't seen up close in about 35 years - This appears to be larger

Fine Wine

California 32

Believe it is a Nick Potter-designed California 32. 46 feet long. Built 1937. Eight built in total. Hull numbers one to five were built prewar. Tempest is hull #3. Seven of the eight still sailing on the U.S. West Coast.

Now that you mention it Fine Wine...

I do recall seeing a C32 on the mainsail. But I thought that was a sail for a Cal 32. I did scratch my head knowing that a Cal 32 sail would be too small for that boat. Thanks for the info and id. Thanks to everyone who help narrow it down.
