1979 S2 26' 8.0b, fin keel -not "shoal"

Help!

I'm told the boat draws 4', but owners manual lists draft at 5'-10" for fin and 6'-1" for shoal (assuming board down).

Is the true depth at water line 4', or more -by virtue of hull?

Thanks

Bo

The only safe way with most boats, because of production changes and options, is to measure both the keel and the mast (bridge clearance). An internet answer will not be certain enough to be useful.

Also, I know that no matter what the tape says, when my depth sounder says 3.4 feet I will touch. I have measured this over a hard sand and thus it is calibrated to my sounder.

I had a friend with an 8.0b and I believe it was 4'. Assuming you haven't had any modifications done or by previous owners the brochure says 4.0' too for deep draft.

Is the manual for your boat specifically? My 11.0 is only 5'5" dry so I can't figure out why an 8.0 would need more...but then I'm no marine architect.

Can you measure out of the water? We are deeper than 5'5 loaded with fuel, water and gear but its hard to imagine an 8.0 that deep.

I think mystery solved. manual said 5'-10" (which was headroom) but 4' draft.
