Boat I just bought has a sail number on the main and I'd like to know the significance, if any, of the number on the sail. The number is 12051. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks, Pat

sail numbers

Go to www.catalina22.org-they have lots of great info including how to read sail/serial #. Also, I too got the cold shoulder from Phil concerning the sails4free thing but I don't know what thats about?

I think Phil's problem with sails4free was explained. They negatively spammed our forums which, obviously, will cause negative feelings from the creators of said forum. Look at it this way, if a colleague in your industry was badmouthing you for no apparent reason, thus possibly hurting your business, you might not like that person too much and probably wouldn't recommend him to any of your customers. Same situation here. LaDonna

Hi Phil........... The easy answer is that the sail number.... is the same as your hull number. Generally.......... the hull/sail number tell about when that particular boat rolled off of Catalina's assembly line. Does that answer your question.... or are you looking for additional detail??

LaDonna, Obviously I missed that series of events (probably before I found your site!) and surely it would affect my opinion. My personal dealings have been better than with most suppliers in general (I am a professional buyer) and I based my comments on that. They have actually gone out of their way to be helpful, which is less and less the norm these days. Keep up the good work-I learn a lot here. Tim

Tim RE: sails

Hi Tim, I just saw your reply post today... certainly didn't intend any cold shoulder to you! I just wanted to voice my opinion about the supplier; I probably should have done that a bit more diplomatically. I am truly sorry if the 'tone' of my post was harsh. I do want this to be a friendly and welcoming place and I hope I did nothing to present it in any other light. ph.

As I mentioned to LaDonna I missed all the early happenings here concerning the sails4free problems so after having such pleasant dealings with Andy I was surprised to see the negative response about it. And this certainly is a very informative and pleasant site! I enjoy learning about C-22's and information is hard to come by way up here in northern Vermont where sailboats are not all that common.
