What do I do, what do I do?

I made several towel hooks with old blocks similar to this and the rope hides the defects in the sheave... and it looks great in the head, galley, or anywhere where you need a hook.
Thanks, Nick. I was wondering how I might repurpose it for something more practical than a pasta cutter (or nipple ring.) Seriously. Thanks!

Hmmm. Frogs are reptiles therefore, they don't have nipples. Explains why Kermit had not considered that use. Miss Piggy on the other hand......
Frogs are amphibians. But still no nipples. So you're right. No nipple ring for me!

You are correct of course. Sometimes my fingers don't listen to my brain. It would still make a nice gift for Piggy.

I would carefully place it aside, the next time I am working on something on the boat which cannot fall overboard, it would accidentally on purpose fall into the drink as a sacrifice to the Gods with the hope that my real item is not taken. Not only does it go to a good home but I get to finally finish a job without having to make multiple trips (and sacrifices) to both god and WM.

Just a thought, or you could repair it as others have suggested :)

If ya have a drill press and some time, you can buy the sheave and replace the axle with a SS pin or bolt. I have done a few of 'em but my circumstances were unusual in that I was teaching a class of 4 newly recruited machnists. One project that they did was to make some wheels out of PEEK (a very strong engineering plastic) .. they looked a lot like the wheels in a couple of my blocks that had shattered.. You can buy the wheels from Schafer or Ronstan or Harken, but those cost very close to what a new block costs..
EDIT: an example.. http://search.defender.com/?expression=Sai015B

Go to the hardware store and get one of those cheap aluminium close line retainers for about $3.00. Knock out one of the sheaves and replace it with that, should be about the right size and last for years under light loads. You might need to sleave the pin, but that would make it last even longer... I'm a cheap bastard!

Paper weight? How about an anchor for a radio control sailboat?

Put it on Ebay as a part that broke on the sailboat used in the filming of Fifty Shades. The price should bid high enough to buy your dream boat. ;)

If it were me and I had tons of time on my hands, I would buy round oak about the width of the block. Then I would route a nice groove to fit whatever line I want. After that, drill a hole to match the pin in the block. When all is done, cut the oak in twos, drill small dowel holes, use the best wood epoxy and put the whole thing on the block. Allow to dry and now you have a new block.

You could get some nipples tattooed on, then get 'em pierced ...??

THEN you could change your boat's name to Freaky Froggy, get some dreadlocks, and start growing your own killer hydroponic pot on board!!

pin and ringding and save for future use. (Yeah, that's a stretch.) Any more ideas?
Being a sailor, you are obligated to save for future use...and then look at it in five years and say, "Well, I still might need it someday."

Nipple ring?
I was thinking a belly button piercing. Could be used as an E.D. device with a length of rope for those embarrassing intimate moments. May need more purchase though. I've been stuck inside too long .............

The Garhauer 40 open reefing block on our 1991 P42 looks sad in the images that follow. Santa brought me two new ones and will replace when the weather breaks. The port side one (reef #2) shown will end up in recycling. The other (still okay) I'll keep as a spare. I suppose one could drill out the bad sheave and replace it, but is it worth the time and effort when Santa delivered from my wish list? Think about it.

Santa brought me 3 Garhauer blocks for my mast plate too. Excellent quality. Santa didn't bring you new sheets? ;)
