What did it cost you for sails and or stays?

Looking at probably getting new sails and stays. One of the bolts to the fore turnbuckle ended up bent somehow. I figure I might as well replace it all if I'm going to do one. Also, when sailing, I noticed that the edge of my main flaps in two places, even though the rest of it is tight. It looks a little frayed too. I don't know the age of the sails, and am curious what I can expect to pay to replace or repair them. Leaning more to buying new...unless say they will cost me as much as the boat did! Josh

Take em to a sailmaker

First take them (sails)down for an evaluation. By the way West marine will do a nice job of duplicating your stays. New sails a whole new suit, would cost as much as the boat is worth, yes. Plenty of places sell used ones tho. Ace sailmakers in New London , Ct is geat and reasonable. He will quote over the phone for new ones. His name is Dave Pelisseur and his # is: 860-443-5556. He can fix em too....

Well, which boat do you have? :)

Josh - What boat are we talking about? My Daysailer was rerigged and had new canvass for $1200. My Catalina was a bit bigger pain. Justin

...sold me a new set of sails for my 272LE for $1,250.00 and I'm as happy as...well...a sailor with a new set of sails! Cheers, Bob

Suppose that would help!

I have an Oday 22. Duh, didnt think to say that heh. I asked West Marine about stays already, well at least the crimped ends. They wont do it, but let you use their equipment to do it yourself. *shrugs* Is there any problem in upgrading to larger stays? I would think thicker stays would be stiffer and have a higher breaking strength, but I wonder if they would put more tension onto the mast? Josh

Masthead or Fractional Rig? Masthead Jib: $325.00 Fractional Jib: $295.00 Main (either rig) $475.00 Sewn in Asia, 5oz. Dacron, 1 reef on main. OEM grade sails. In stock or a few weeks if out of stock. I purchased from them for my 25 and they're fine. You can also get custom sizes or grades/features and they'll have them made when they place reorders for their stock.

Thanks everyone...

Good to know. I had thought about going to Rudy, and even directed someone to him that found me on the net as owning an Oday. He was asking me my rigging specs because of a demast. I told him that Rudy could probably give him all the information he wanted and to spec. I figured that after 25 years mine probably had stretched and worn out a bit. Possible they weren't original as well. I am probably leaning towards doing it myself, now that I know West Marine lets you use their equipment. I'll call Rudy about it and price it just the same. You never know, me might be cheaper. As for the sails, its a masthead and for the price that sailwarehouse is showing I might end up getting them there. Probably get my old ones repaired as well, just as a backup should something happen. I'd rather limp back on an old sail then drift on no sail at all. Thanks again, Josh
