What is more important is the bulb. A standard size bulb like what you would get in the automotive section of Walmart or at an auto parts place is likely to be magnetically attractive and effect your compass. Then it really would not matter what color the light is as the compass is going to be waaaayyyy off.

would this also hold true for an LED as well ...i do know you should twist ( candy cane style) the wires comming up the pedistal to the light and about three feet back to the source....
