What color is your sheet?

I guess I should not even splice my nice new red jib halyard or my stylish new blue main halyard. I should just jettison them from the boat.

If you have a regular crew, that knows what they are about, colored lines are immaterial. However, if you have a pick up crew, or friends on the boat who are clueless, colored lines can be a big help. None of those folks are going to know the names of anything or what they do. They will understand "pull on the blue and red flecked line".

On my H34, I downsized the halyards and control lines to 3/8" and they work fine. I think the original rigging was "7/16". I would suggest low stretch halyards because the rig is fairly tall and the lines are led to the cockpit - - leaving a lot of line to stretch. I used Yale Chrystaline on my boat because it is easy to splice and cost effective. The Chrystaline colors have not faded in the North Carolina sun.

This could be a good time to change your rope clutches. The H34's were built with Easy Lockers. Easy Lockers are so counter-intuitive that I had to conduct rope clutch school for every new crewman on the boat. I replaced the EL's with a triple gang on each side.
