And it still is.

We're looking at all the reasons we should be taking to our boats and say the hell with overcrowding and densification in what were once beautiful cities. Will the last person to launch, please turn out the lights at SBO ?
as the saying goes, “everything is relative”. Here, the urban sprawl effect is most noticeable around marinas and we go home or go sailing to escape the oceanfront crowds, traffic, development and construction. That’s easier than complaining about it.

Sails Call Lounge: The place for non-sailing related posts that aren't political or religious.
“Non- sailing related” vs. unrelated to boats …. Two different animals but whatever floats yours. I was merely expressing a perception. Geeeeez.

Right. It's quite clear that the purpose of the Sails Call Lounge is for discussions about non sail-driven vessels, such as powerboats and row boats, that are apolitical and non-religious.

I BELIEVE IN BOATS.
I find solace and peace when I am on a boat. I care, nuture, and ask the boat to carry me to far away places. These feelings..

Are they religious or non-religious....

I guess the latter cause I can share them in all the forums. I do not idolize boats, so again the latter of the two criteria.

I note that there are many biblical references to boats. They have played an important part in religious discussions. I know sailors have prayed to their boat, about their boat, even cursed their boat when conditions have seemed dire.

I am going to consider this no foul and carry on.

Chalk it up to population growth and prosperity ... we won't stop population growth anytime soon, but we could kill off prosperity. There are over 100 million more people living in the United States now than when I first bought a home in 1980. That's a 45% increase. When I left school in Iowa, there were about 2.9 million living in Iowa. Now there is less than 3.2 million. That's a 10% increase. Iowa is a lovely place (Kevin Costner wondered if it was heaven ;)) and there are lovely people living there, but Iowa doesn't have a coastline or the grandeur of mountains and forests, or a stunning natural environment. Guess where all the new people, with all their new prosperity want to live? If they have to settle for a condo or a modern house on a small plot of land, guess what? There is going to be a builder who will fulfill their dreams. It's not greed ... it's simple economics. It's not the builder or land developer who created the demand. Income and demand is growing rapidly and when that happens, supply diminishes. That's why we have gentrification. We can complain about this or that. New people want a slice of something that many of us discovered years ago. They may have to settle for something less than you enjoyed for years, but they still want that slice, just like you did, and the world is going to continue to spin and economic forces are going to do what they do. Now it may be your turn to be resentful because somebody richer is gobbling up your pie. But they have a right to it, just as you did years ago.

Also, that environmental badge that many people love to show off? It's just a badge ... they don't really want to sacrifice their lifestyle. That's probably why I don't want to go along with it. When I see rich people sacrificing, I'll start to think about it.

I just got a notice that starting in July 2023, the docks where I am berthed will be demolished. :(They will then rebuild new docks and be done around February 2024. :) The docks we have are wooden ones and way out of touch with reality. Hopefully the new ones will be concrete and they'll add a little more distance between fingers. In the meantime, we have to find someplace else for our boats. This is the time I wish I had a trailer. :(

Wow, that's a difficult situation. Maybe find a nearby anchorage?

The Marina management is reaching out to local marinas asking for assistance in a way that would help us. We have a year, but we have to start looking now, not in June of 2023. There are military marinas in San Diego Bay but we don't know what their status is. Oceanside Marina requires we pay to be put on a wait list. That kind of sucks.

I've heard about those cars... Always tucked into the garage at night... the motor is never pushed to hard. Only driven to church on Sundays...

I recently traded my 2006 Z4 to my youngest son for a pickup truck. What are all we old men doing in BMW roadsters?

Mid-life crisis?
I am sure that is why I bought one!

But mine, while garage kept, is no garage queen. Or a show car.

But she is still pretty…
