Hello all,
After several bottles of Ibuprofen I realize it's time to purchase a windlass. Today I attended the Strickly Sail Show in Oakland, CA. There were several vendors selling various brand windlass devices. My problem is that I don't have a clue which is best for our 2002 356. Which model and what size would fit in the anchor locker. If anyone can help...that would be so great.
My wife and I sailed the Great Lakes last year from May to September and are planning on doing the same this season.
Thank so much.

the 356 needs a special low-profile version of the Sprint Atlantic windlass. It was an option, not standard equipment. I would think you could use something different but it would protrude through the anchor hatch

Also you'll one with base plate that let the chin fall forward of the Windlass and not one that drop the chain directly below it through a hole. I believe Simpson Lawrence make has option for such base plate.

Actually there are a couple of windlasses that are made specifically for the Hunters. Lewmar & Quick both make one. They are referred to as Pickle Fork models.

If you contact these organization they should be able to assist you. If you need more information let me know.

I just installed a Lewmar V2 on my 2004 Hunter 33. It went in pretty easily. The "footprint" aligned perfectly. I was unable to find the pickle fork version Steve referred to, but 5 minutes with an angle grinder with a cutter wheel and then a polishing wheel and my windlass was converted to the feed forward type. Works perfectly! Actually if you look closely at the Simpson Lawrence model that came with my H33 that is exectly what they (Hunter?) did as well.

Actually they are built by the windlass companies specifically for Hunter. You just need to call the mfg to get the correct part number.
