This is a good time for a reminder to everyone: Don't wait for something to break before getting spares.

Your toilet is a Raritan Crown Head

http://www.raritaneng.com/products/toilets/electric/crown_head.html I dunno how you missed seeing that on the motor housing, 'cuz both "Crown Head" and "Raritan Englineering Co. Inc. Millville NJ are clearly visible in your "electric motor" photograph # 7.

The owners manual, which you can download from there includes an exploded drawing and parts list....the "small impeller pump on the side" is the intake pump assembly...the part # is CH102MW.

However, looking at the amount of dirt and corrosion that's also evident in the photographs, that toilet needs a lot more than just a new intake pump assembly...at the very least, a rebuild kit. There were three versions of the Crown Head, each requiring its own different kit. Yours is the current Centrifugal Discharge version...be sure you get the right one. "Standard " is NOT the "standard one size fits all kit, it's the name of one of the earlier versions.

But before you spend the monety for the new intake pump and a rebuild kit...you also need to be aware that while the Crown Head is prob'ly the most durable reliable workhorse on the planet--the ONLY toilet you'd want if you were running a tug in NY harbor or a "Deadliest Catch" trawler--but it's a dinasaur that draws a whopping 36 amps/flush, needs 1-3 gallons of flush water, and makes enough noise to wake the dead. Raritan has an exchange program that would allow you to swap out the "lower unit' (everything but the bowl, seat and lid) for a SeaEra http://www.raritaneng.com/products/toilets/electric/sea_era.html lower unit for a very reasonable price. The SeaEra is MUCH quieter, drows less than half the amperage and uses only about 2 qts of flush water.

I suggest you give Vic Willman at Raritan a call...800-352-5630 x 6. He's their tech services manager, been there 36 years...and has forgotten more about every Raritan's ever made than anyone else will ever learn.

Mystery Toilet

As Peggie mentioned, it's a Raritan Crown Head, centrifugal discharge series. It was manufactured sometime after 1987, but I couldn't read the serial number, to determine just when it was manufactured. It isn't the original motor unit from the boat; it has been replaced at some point in the past. You mentioned that the boat is a 1981 model, however the centrifugal discharge series Crown Head didn't come on the market until 1987.

The intake pump assembly on the rear, where most of your photos were directed, is Raritan part #CH102MW. It is available as a sub-assembly, factory price is $180.55. Or, considering the appearancc of it, you may wish to consider going with the Factory Exchange Option, details follow below. Yours is a Crown Head; it isn't a Crown Head II, as is also mentioned below - they aren't the same, and they aren't interchangeable:

<< Exchange Program: Raritan has had an exchange program for the Crown Head and Crown Head II for many years. Remanufactured pump and motor units, commonly called “Lower Base Assemblies” (LBA's) – this is the complete mechanical unit located beneath the toilet bowl only, it does not include the toilet bowl, seat, lower cover or deodorant injection system - are sold with a new product warranty, taking the customer's older unit in trade.

These are shipped to the customer and a core deposit of $125.00 is assessed until the older unit is received back at Raritan, whereupon the core deposit is returned to the customer, or a credit is issued to his credit card company, as appropriate. Order part #
XCM** for the Crown Head, and XC2M** for the Crown Head II. (Note ** - enter necessary DC voltage for the head; example - XCM12 is a 12 volt Crown Head LBA). Current "net" exchange price is $525.00. The customer is responsible for freight charges both ways, usually $40.00 or less each way, via UPS Ground. So, going out the door, the customer is charged the net price, plus the core deposit, plus freight. Upon receipt of the old unit back at Raritan, the $125.00 core deposit is refunded.

Note that exchange units are offered on an "as available" basis only; they are not not always in stock. Also note that Exchange Units do not include a discharge fitting. This is the Bronze (or plastic) fitting where the large discharge hose connects to the toilet base. The existing fitting on the head must be removed and re-used.

Exchange units are no longer offered to replace the limited-production 115 volt AC/DC Crown Head units that were produced during the 1970’s and ‘80’s. Only 12 volt, 24 volt and 32 volt DC units are currently offered.

If you wish to avoid the $125.00 core deposit, you can send the lower unit in to Raritan in advance, and request that an Exchange Unit be shipped out in return. Be sure to notate the voltage of the motor (as it is not always readily apparent), and include your name, shipping address and a daytime phone number. You will be contacted by phone for a credit card number. >>

Or, as Peggie mentioned, you may wish to consider swapping out your Crown Head to another of Raritan's line of marine toilets, such as the SeaEra or the Marine Elegance models. A 25% discount from the retail price is offered for the balance of 2009, if you replace one complete Raritan toilet with another complete unit. The SeaEra conversion kit does not qualify for the 25% discount, as it is not a complete toilet, it is simply the lower base unit.
