My wife and I saw a great looking boat this past Sunday. I would say it was in the 25' range. The markings on the sail were a star underlined by three lines. Does anyone know what this boat is? I would love to look it up on line. Thanks Dale

Hi Dale...

...look at the "Comet", could that be it? http://www.angelfire.com/jazz/cl16man/SailboatLogos/_logosV111905.html Jack

Not a comet

Jack, That was not it. This was a keel boat in the 25' range. It would be the same star as the comet, but the three lines were stacked under the star, and they were all the same lenght. Thanks Jack for the nice site Dale

Mystery boat

Several years ago, (late 1960's), members of racing fleets in SE Kansas would add stripes and chevrons to their sails to denote what fleet they were in. If I remember correctly 3 chevrons would indicate an expert sailor in "A" fleet. I do not remember the brand of boats, but they could have been a one-design such as a Star. The Star is a fin keeled boat, and is approx. 23' long. It is an open cockpit, and is steered with a tiller. The mast is set further forward than todays designs, and the jib is a very small blade. The boom extends to the stern of the boat and the jib's hoist is approx. 1/2 the height of the mast. Hope this helps. (Where did you see the boat?)

There is a picture of the Star sailboat

at the link below since you did not have a picture of your mystery boat. The markings on the sail that you described made me think of the Sonar but it's mainsail only has lines on it whereas the Star uses just that.

Henderson Bay

David, We saw this boat on Henderson Bay, Lake Ontario. It was not a star class boat. It had a cabin with two ports on each side. It was one nice looking boat. Dale
