I had a much longer repsonse typed in, but this site stopped repsonding and I lost it. We are heading out Thurs. to go to the North Channel, so am short on time. The shorter version follows.

I learned to sail on a CS27 and then a CS33, a friends boat that we used to club race in Mimico for several years. I looked at boats for 20 years before we could afford and bought a Hunter 33 for the interior space for cruising in Georgian Bay. The boat also sails weel, we did 6.5 - 7 knots last weekend for several hours in 15 - 20 knot winds.

The CS boats were very well built and only wnet under in the 80's recession because they were overbuilt and pricey for the times.

An excellent example of a CS36 is Maine Sails http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/cs36 that was well maintained and replacments done when required.

I understand your excitement, as we just went throught the same thing last year buying our first boat. Just remember the time / $$$$ factor of maintaining the boat once you get it "home"

A couple of people have brought boats up from the US in our marina with very little hassle. One motored across Ontario, then trucked up north. The other just trucked. A maiden voyage on a new to you boat can be fun or a distaster or inbetween depending on the boat and your experience. Just remember the time involved could be a week or more or less. You also want to check for fresh water boats vs. salt water.

New Orleans

I live just east of New Orleans. Don't like the cold. For me, anything north of I 10 is too far north in the winter.

FOB

Last time someone even THOUGHT I was trying to advertise my boat in a forum, I had a new one ripped for me. I don't know how you've gotten away with it so far. You can direct him to look in the classifieds, but advertising your own boat for sale is definitly against the rules...

There you go SailorKevan

20 minutes away. and you can get a free sail today. I'd offer him $5,000 less than what he is asking. He'll be saving the commission plus. His ad really should be pulled by Phil. Look in the boats for sale on this web site. Are you sleeping up there or what? Asleep at the wheel. And here I thought you were a go getter.
Keep it up,

Here's a search..

Here's a search of 1988 to 1990 Catalina 30's in the North East. I chose 1988 as a starting point, as opposed to 1985, because that is when Catalina stopped laminating plywood into the keel stub. You can get a newer Cat 30 in the mid to high 20's and it's a LOT more boat than the Catalina 27. Just want you to be sure to check comps and Yachtworld is the site brokers use most..

1988-1990 (in the NE) Catalina 30's = $25,000.00 to $39,000.00

Is there any other members having trouble with this site?

Hey guys, i'm posting this message to see if its just me, or are other members having this problem? If so, if we find out that others are, we can let the administrators that run the site know. Okay, this happens to me quite frequently: it usually happens when i type a message or sometimes by just going to another page or link. What happens is i'm constantly getting cut off at these times. It reminds me of when we first got a computer and you would go to the chat lines. You'd be chatting then for no reason-bang-cut off and couldn't get back on. well that happens to me here also. And when this does happen, i sometimes can't get back on for about 1 hour> So guys-if this is happening to you also, please leave a reply here stating so, and we can show the administrators that there is a problem that needs addressing-thanks-Kevan
