My good Dietzgen Teflon slider one is at home.
I had just got a brand new one, in its Leather Case, when slide rule class was cancelled and changed to FORTRAN programming. It is still unused.
Best use for the NEW rule ,I saw, was someone had it mounted in a framed box with glass on front.
Sign on glass said...
"Break glass in case of loss of power"
I still have a "pocket size one" but quit using it when everyone asked...
"What the heck is that?"
When I was in officer training, the Navy issued a cheap one with razor blades.
In a class of 88 officers, 4 knew how to use one.
We were in Navigational training test about "Vectors". The 4 pulled out the slide rules and finished the test 15 minutes early and were standing in the hall drinking a coke. [ we 4 aced the test]
We were swarmed by the others... "What the heck is that?"
So...
I made $10 [ todays would be ≈$50 as a percent of pay] a lesson to teach them. Lotta beer money then
Jim...
PS: We launched a man to the moon, they used slide rules aboard Apollo since no battery power needed.
