What are these…

Ok in the pics there is some beading made out of a vinyl material and foam or sponge Inside. I have found these in various locations around the boat, the 2 pics below are from the main bulkhead at the floor, and in the Vee berth where the head counter top is located. I have found this stuff in the galley around the ice box, and where the counter top meets the outer hull. Most of it is totally rotten. So what is it? Do I need it? And if I do need it, where do I get replacements?

Also, one last question. See the paneling in the bottom pic? Well I have that same stuff in most of my boat, is it factory or some previous owners addition? The workmanship on it is not all that great so I want to replace it with something else.

yes factory. It is trim to cover gaps. I had the same on my Catalina 25. You can create your own version in different vinyl, or remove and caulk

That type of binding is really easy to make. Any fabric or upholstery supply will have it. Or you can order it from companies like www.sailrite.com

That paneling is just pine car siding from Home Depot or similar. It’s not really suited for marine use. I would tear it out, but it might be covering something really ugly.

I was figuring it was not factory by the way some of the edges were finished, but I didn’t know for sure. As for hiding something… yea prolly but I can sand and paint or refinish it with something else.
