What are these holes for?

I can't seem to figure what these holes are for near the base of my dodger?

Any clues? The finish on the holes makes me think they are not factory but were added by the original owner...

on my Passage 42, they fed the vents inside the salon.

Similar to this, I opened them up so that I could put a small piece of screen in, to prevent bees and wasp from using them. An external filter or screen may have been installed by the PO?

I would cover/enclose them with something to keep the bugs/critters from using them.

Very interesting. I cannot see or feel very far into them but you are saying they are a type of dorade? My boat is a Passage 420. I did not think I have vents although there are vents inside the Salon that I always assumed are part of an optional air conditioning install. If they are not properly "dorades" but do in fact lead to ventilation then I would think they are a major source of potential ingress of the water...
