What are the levers for on a Hunter 23 Boom

I searched the internet and can not find how to use the levers on a Hunter 23 boom. They are underneath the boom where it attaches to Mast, Any info most helpful. Also is there a way to raise the boom up about 3 inches so I can completely open pop companion way hatch ceiling cover.

They might be cleats/jammers for reefing lines? Pictures are helpful.

I have the same thing on my H26.

One is for the reefing line and the other is the topping lift.

For reefing a 3/4 inch line goes from that cleat ... threaded through the boom to the out-haul (end of boom) then up to the reefing clew eye and then down to a pad eye. To reef you simply lower the main with the halyard and then pull on that line to synchronize up the sail to the reef clew.

I can take a pic next time I’m at the boat if that is too hard to follow

They are actually the same word. There may be slightly different intended connotations, but 'synch' is the abbreviation for 'synchronize'. Now maybe (may be, maybe) you meant 'sink-up', to wash or immerse in a tub?

If the device in question has a lever, it is most likely a rope (line) clutch, and totally agree it’s purpose is to secure main sail reefing. Two such clutches would most likely indicate two reef points on the sail, or possibly one for leech and one for luff grommets.

Look undervboat info for hunter 26 and go to downloads. Look in the owners manual and you will see a descriptive drawing of the boom as the 23 manual was sparse.

Not sure if your boom is Kenyon isomat or Z Spar. Anyway there are 3 levers for topping lift,out haul and reef. For the topping lift it sucked. You have to leave tiller to adjust and then with wear the jaws on that lever wear out and boom falls.

Not sure if your topping lift is fixed length with a turning block on the end or if it is longer. There are suggestions. Using the turning block, you could run a line affixed to an eyestrap on the end of the boom to the topping lift turning block above the boom of course to another turning block with curved base affixed to the end of the boom to a cleat on the boom.

You could could use the existing line in the boom if long enough with a permanent stopper knot at the gooseneck end so it would not slip out of the boom and then routing like above.

However there is another way. Using a Ronstan V Jam block affixed to the end of the boom either with a regular or twist style shackle, you could run the 1/4 inch line through that block exiting thru the v jam with a temp stopper knot so boom cannot fall down. I forgot the series block but used it successfully elevated on the 26/260. Easy way to lower or raise the boom and easy to install or remove. When setting up or taking down
