What are practical options to improve tank vents

I have a new Beneteau 393, I keep it in a slip. From the start I have used the Raritan KO product, but after six weeks owning the boat, the second time we emptied the tank (via Macerator), we started getting foul smells from the tank vent that intrude upon our sailing enjoyment. I am guessing, that their isn't enough air circulating into the tank. What are the practical improvements I could have made, without having the boat yard people think I am crazy ?

Try Odorlos

Odorlos work well! Purchase a bucket of it and save some money. We put ours in zip lock bags so we do not have that container on the boat.

As Steve suggested, try Odorlos...

Its active ingredient is nitrates, which promote oxygem release from the waste itself, so it often works quite well in tanks that aren't well enough ventilated to provide enough oxygem for K.O. to work. However, no matter what you use in the tank, it's important that the tank be at least nominally flushed out after each pumpout, and especially important that the vent line be backflushed each time you pump out and/or wash the boat. In fact, if you spill waste out the vent when you're heeled, it's entirely possible that K.O. was working...till waste buildup partially blocked your vent. A completely blocked vent results in problems that make a little odor seem desirable in comparison...so make very sure that never happens. For more information about sanitation system maintenance and odor elimination/prevention, see the link below.

Flush the tank more often

If you are in an area that allows you to use your macerator, then just flush the tank more often. Pump the sucker full of sea water then empty it with the macerator, repeat, fill the tank half way and go sailing for a couple of hours, empty with the macerator. The problem should go away. And yea, you still need to clean out the vent line with a blast of pressure water on occasion.
