Great boat! Almost as good as my H37C. Rardi will have lots to say 'bout that. Not sure I understand how you get along without an aft berth. The lazarettes must be huge. If you read some of the posts on the Cherubini forum you will see lots about Rardi's H36 including pictures. All of what is good about the Cherubinis applies to the H36.

These boats have an extremely good reputation. I had the pleasure of helping a friend deliver a 33'er from Cape Coral over to Biloxi a couple of years ago. We went straight across the gulf, and was very nice trip. Also have a neighbor who has one. ( Another 33 ) They are just flat out good boats.

Maybe better!

Almost as good as my H37C.
It may even be better than the H37C, you don't need to mess with that inner stay for the staysail. <g>:dance:

Actually I love the H37C and have a lot of respect for all of the Hunter Cherubini's. I have sailed on several different models and they are fine boats. I assume that the 36 does not have a keel stepped mast, so you need to be aware of the compression post step. Blisters can be a problem with some of the years and the early ones were some what underpowered. Many have been repowered and should be high on anyones list for a very well built boat that is now over 30 years old.

If it gets a good survey, it is a good find.

Unfortunately I only picked up your post at 11:15 pm. Too depleted of energy to write much. If you haven't yet discovered the owners' review section of the sailboatowners.com forum, here is the url to the Cherubini Hunter 36 review page. Mine is in there somewhere.

If after viewing the prospective boat, you still have interest, post your questions on the Cherubini forum. We'll do our best with useful responses. (However I'm away from home right now and I'm a bit slow with typing on my travel netbook).

I've seen pictures of Hunter Cherubini's with a quarter berthwwhere the nav station and electric panel are in my boat. Maybe the boat you will be looking at has this variation.
I don't have need for a quarter berth. I really like the large desk area and under the port lazerette in the cockpit there is room for storage and a removable access panel to the engine. A good feature of this model is a removable hatch in the cockpit floor that allows great topside engine access as well. Plus the removable panel under the companionway steps. Virtually any engine adjusmmentor repair can be made without contorting oneselfm

Sorry that your long trip was a wasted afternoon. Also to hear your description that boat had been neglected.

Guess you could have offered: How about you pay me a couple of hundred to take it off your hands!

Typical

When I retired and began looking for a boat, found your experience to be very common. I spent over six months, drove the entire gulf coast from S.Texas to the Keys, looking at boats. Over 90% of what I looked at was not as advertised, and most was just junk. I had pretty much exactly what I wanted in a boat in mind, and it took a lot of looking to find " the one."
Good luck on your search, and you will find it. Just might take some time.

I have found that some of the sweetest deals never make it on the internet or craigslist. There is a lot to be said for stopping into marinas and asking if someone is selling their boat of XX size.

A friend found a class A RV in Colorado that was in the ballpark for rigs of same age,style...etc and has lots of phone and Email conversations with pictures with the seller so he gets his $ and a plane ticket planning on looking and buying based on all the conversations and ended up finding a beat up unit and the pictures were from some one else's ad.....the guy said the same thing "few hundred should make it look like new"......my friend gave him a piece of his mind, like that mattered
