Mine bought our current boat because SHE wanted something a little bigger, and she likes to sail. Like I say when I do a good job docking "sometimes you just get lucky".

My lady was having a difficult time pull starting our reliable 8hp evinrude yachtwin so I came home one day to hear she bought me a brandy new 2012 Tohatsu 9.8 extra long shaft electric start . She noticed it in the bookmarks on the computer and said to herself "oh that's a good idea" Now I'm looking for a dinghy to put the old 8hp on for our son. She's all for that too!!!

What a good reason to let your wife get access to your computer!

The fact that she understands bookmarks is worth everything.

My wife "forced" us to buy a bigger boat, but while she's great on the internet, she re-types all the urls - hasn't quite figured the bookmarks and tabs out yet... She claims she can re-type 'em faster than looking them up. Who am I to argue?

I'll quietly disappear now...

You guys are definitely lucky.

I had to trick mine. Proposed to her on the dock next to my then 19' glasply ;-) (Yes, I know, but I was young and poor and going thru a powerboat stage). Told her I was going to sail around the world someday and she could come with if she married me. She agreed and now I just keep telling her all the new boats, expenses, and toys are necessary in the evolution of boat ownership. "How could we possibly go cruising someday to places unknown if I don't have tons of experience with _______(cool new unnecessary gadget)."

She's definitely a good sport.

Nope. I just happen to have a wife who loves sailing and living on our boat.

While my wife loves to sail with me she will sell the boat in a heartbeat if I'm not around. She asked me to come out of retirement so we could afford the bottom painting job our boat badly needs.

No complaints, just a different view.

Last year - Stark Terror in her eyes as the boat heeled less than five degrees.
This year - "It's only 20 degrees. As long as the rail's not under the water..."

Amazing what lessons have done for us.
And she insisted that I get the Cape Dory because she liked the woodwork.

Worth all the effort in developing good spousal communication on the water.

Wives are strange creatures. Mine was fine at 20-25d in our little H22. After about 5-6yrs layoff we now have a H29.5. Getting used to 15-20d again. She isn't used to seeing that tall mast lay over.

What happened to your engine? Are you sure you need a new one or can it be rebuilt? A firend on a Catalina 42 is going through a rebuild now, a much cheaper option than new.
