What a ride

Did a trip to Cape Charles from Little Creek Norfolk on Friday. Nice sail over had to motor sail last 8 miles. We came back on Saturday. North wind was blowing 15-20 down the bay. We had a very broad reach going home. Started with a reefed main only. We were doing a steady 6-6.5 knots. We were surfing down the 2-3 foot waves then plowing over the back of the next one. After an hour of stearing like this I decided we needed to slow down to make for a more comfortable ride. We dropped the main altogether and unrolled about 15 sq feet of jib. We slowed to about 4-4.5 knots and matched our speed to that of the waves. What a sail.

Saturday morning

We made it all the way from the tip of Tilghman Is to Herring Bay on one tack in those winds on Sat, a close reach all the way. Took us 6 hours to get there on Friday and only 2 hours to get back on Sat! What a great ride!!! :)
